Dragon Quest IX / 9: Defenders Of The Sky

Dragon Quest IX: Defenders Of The Sky (ドラゴンクエストIX: 星空の守り人) for the Nintendo DS handheld system is the ninth installment in the heavilly acclaimed Dragon Quest series, it is developed by Level-5 and then published by Square Enix.

Koichi Sugiyama confirmed in August of 2006 that Dragon Quest IX was in development. The japanese magazine Famitsu, quoted a speach from Sugiyama saying "I'm not sure when Dragon Quest IX will be released, but it seems that progress is continually being made. I'm personally excited."

December 12, 2006, marked the 20th anniversary conference event for the Dragon Quest franchise, Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest IX will be released for the first time ever on a handheld system, it was being designed for the Nintendo DS! Dragon Quest IX will feature an action-oriented battle system which may also actually be real time, and co-operative multiplayer for up to four players via the DS's Wi-Fi capabilities.
