Final Fantasy III DS is ofcourse a next generation portable title, but what we must also remember is the game itself is well over 10 years old! The gameplay elements foun din the old Famicon version, will seem to new gamers outdated and most likely less enjoyable than modern day standards in gaming. So Square Enix have taken some time to fine touch these elements up, the remake does still see the turn based battle system also!

The job system has become somewhat historical in the older Final Fantasy titles, so it's nice to see that it has also stayed and is featured in the game as a focal point to the strategic elements of play which make this the RPG it is. Like the original, jobs are interchangeable classes. However, in the original Final Fantasy III Famicon version, all four characters you have start out as Onion Knights, but this time for the remake the characters start out as Freelancers.

Final Fantasy III is the first game in the series to feature special battle commands such as Steal or Jump, each of which is associated with a particular job ie - Steal being the Thief's specialty, while Jump is the Dragoon's special ability. In the remake, these commands have been rebalanced, and certain classes now have new commands to use and master! Also, you are now totally free to switch the characters' jobs as much as they want. Now you get a small penalty every time the characters switch their jobs in the form of decreased stats for a set number of battles, this adds yet another strategic point to consider so you don't recklessly change jobs all the time! A new quick save option for if you are in a cave and you cannot save is present also.

A little fact for you to think about, Advertisements for the game emphasize the job system by boasting that there are 279,841 possible party configurations... so you will be very busy indeed playing this game!
